Heather Johns Charged with Vehicular Homicide Following Hit-and-Run Crash on N. Broadway

Heather Johns, 45 of Knoxville, has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication after leaving the scene of a fatal pedestrian-involved crash on Monday night.

At around 8:50 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2024, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to N. Broadway at Buchanan Avenue, where a woman had been struck by a car that left the scene.

The victim, age 75, was transported to the UT Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle while also providing a potential tag number for the vehicle. Officers responded to the registered address for the vehicle in the 700 block of Chickamauga Avenue. There, they found a silver Chevy Equinox with front-end damage. Upon officer arrival, Johns was in the driver’s seat with the keys still in her possession. Based on multiple indicators, it is believed that Johns was under the influence of alcohol.

Johns was taken into custody on charges that include vehicular homicide and has been booked at the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.
